Dr Teng is a psychiatrist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. She was formerly a Consultant Psychiatrist at the National University Hospital (NUH). Her passion for working with children and adolescents led her to pursue further training in child and adolescent mental health. She is well-versed in the management of conditions which develop in young individuals, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, anxiety and depression.
Dr Teng also has a special interest in women’s mental health. With more than a decade of experience practicing perinatal psychiatry and being a mother herself, she empathetically addresses the mental health concerns of women who are conceiving, pregnant or postpartum. Her approach is family-centred and balances both psychosocial and pharmacological aspects of treatment.
After obtaining her medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr Teng did her Psychiatry specialty training at the Institute of Mental Health, NUH and Singapore General Hospital. She was awarded the Singapore Psychiatric Association Book Prize for excelling in her Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) examination.
Under the NUH Academic Manpower Development award, Dr Teng completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Child and Adolescent Mental Health programme at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. As part of the MSc programme, she worked with the King’s College Hospital Paediatric Liaison Service, developing skills in evaluating children and young people presenting with psychiatric emergencies and psychological difficulties secondary to medical illness. She received a Distinction and the Sir Michael Rutter Prize for her academic performance at the course.
As a former Clinician-Educator, Dr Teng was involved in postgraduate residency training and undergraduate medical education. She underwent training in medical teaching pedagogy at NUS, completing the Certificate in Medical and Health Professions Education programme in 2016.
Dr Teng has led and participated in various quality improvement projects (QIP) over the years. In 2023, she received the Best Project award for the QIP titled “Improving the monitoring and management of side effects in patients prescribed with medication for ADHD”.
